![1908 International]()
1908 International - Auction - Westport, CT - The wonderful motorcar offered here is an outstanding example of Internationals mark in automotive history, a 1908 Model A. The utilitarian design of the charming 1908 International is clearly displayed in its buckboard appearance and high-wheel solid wagon wheels. This example is a remarkable survivor that is still in its original condition with only routine maintenance performed through the years for preservation. Best of all it still retains all of its needed touring gear including rear seats, top, mud guard fenders, and gas powered lamps. Power for the 1908 International comes from a twin cylinder engine mated to a friction drive transmission. Although utilitarian in appearance, Internationals Model A was a fairly successful motorcar in its day with 4,500 being built. From its charming high-wheeler appearance to its simplified design, its Spartan nature is as much to marvel as its impact on the history of the automobile. The International is a motorcar that represents a bridge between the horse-drawn carriage and the modern automobile. This fine and un-restored example is perhaps the most perfectly preserved International Model A in the world and is certainly a worthy addition to any early motorcar collection.
