1971 International Travelall - $5,995 - Watertown, NY -

Up for sale is my trusty two-tone 1971 Travelall 1010 with 345 V8. I bought it from the 2nd owner.  It is a 4 on the floor, manual stick shift, and the 1st gear is a granny gear. This gear lets you start up with a heavy load like a breeze. It is so low that you can literally drive uphill at idle. Very powerful. It only has 75k original miles and is currently my daily driver (so mileage continually changes), passed NYS safety inspection. The tires have good tread, and there is a good full size spare with the original jack. The truck has some rust in a few places as expected, but the engine and frame are in excellent condition and most of the body is too. This truck turns heads. Everybody marvels at what good shape this Travelall is in. Everybody comes up scratching their heads trying to understand what it is. Everybody except for the old-timers, I guess, who lean out of car windows with a boyish smile and gleefully yell "I haven't seen one of those in years!" They don't make them like this anymore. My Dad and I took it to the Nationals in Ohio. It has been garaged all of its life except for the last 2 years. It spent almost 10 years of  its life in Arizona in a shed in the desert, according to the man I bought it from. When I bought it in Oregon, I had been looking for a year for this exact truck, and he was the executor of an estate. I drove it from Oregon to upstate NY with no problems. Right now I would not hesitate to take this truck straight across the country. With the 3.54 gear ratio, it hums along at 80mph no problem, loves towing, and gas mileage has been 12mpg. Not too bad when you consider that my buddy’s 95 Suburban is getting about the same mileage. It tows like a dream, real straight. The owner I purchased it from had a lot of original parts carefully packaged up and I have maintained them that way. This truck is all original except for the custom exhaust. One thing that everybody comments on, and is the reason I bought this truck, is that is has the special rear ambulance doors which are designed for towing. Some people call them barn doors. These doors work great, and the truck has so much room in it that I can go get a load of drywall (4x8 sheets) from the store and fill up the truck and close it. These doors open up and out so as to clear a trailer when towing. It has a beast of a hitch on it, directly welded to the frame. The doors have releases on them to swing all the way wide, which is a blessing when hauling materials. I keep this truck whistle clean however, and have enjoyed taking it to the drive-in where the whole family enjoys the movie with those barn doors swung wide. Although I have loved this truck as a rare classic, I have driven it daily for the last 5 years. I put 25k on it, and loved each one of those miles. It has never let me down, starts every time, runs like a top, has had oil changes every 6 months/3000 mi, and I have continually bettered the vehicle since I purchased it. I must sell as I am starting a family and need the money to get married. 303,,,913,,,5980-that's the # to call if you are interested. I am a private seller.

Works nicely.
  • You’ll also receive some original documentation with comes with the Travelall which includes
  • :The original Line Setting Ticket, (and an extra copy.) It is a complete list of every mechanical item on the truck and states such features as heavy duty springs, high capacity heater, T-418 Transmission, and Deluxe Interior and Exterior Trim packages. It also has Trac-Loc. It is 2WD, but the rear has Trac-Loc (Power-Lock Differential) so if you ever get a wheel stuck in sand, you can gently apply the brake and the other rear wheel will spin to get you out. It is a neat feature, but I have never needed it as this truck is heavy and gets good traction with these tires.
  • The original Owner’s Manual  is in good condition, has notes from the original owner in it which are useful.
  • Also included are a pile of receipts detailing the above maintenance and repairs.
  • Also have the original bill of sale from Jordan’s Inc, in Redmond OR, delivered 4 days after Christmas in 1970. It was delivered to Christmas Valley Oregon. Coincidentally this truck has been nicknamed Christmas, after the famous reliable horse in a Max Brand book, because of how smoothly she rides.
  • Original Sales Engineering Bulletin from International Harvester at time of vehicle sale which describes the features of the vehicle.

Problems:leaks an occasional drop of oil/Seat upholstery is torn some/Rust in rear wheel wells.

Hard to get rid of because it is addictive-if you've had an international, you know what I'm referring to. Everytime I get out of this truck, I look back at her with love. But I'm starting a family so I have to let her go. If you want to test drive her, call my cell, (  3..0.. 3---9..1..3----5,,9,,8,,0...). I have ads all over the place, and the first one who can afford her takes her. She is rare- it is hard to even find a picture of a similar truck anywhere on the internet, let alone an actual truck. And with her regular maintenance she is going to make someone very happy for many years to come. Thanks for reading, Mike.
